The primary objective of this paper is to compare and assess the risk of three major environmental issues in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Wastewaters, municipal solid wastes, and air pollutants have been selected to be assessed for their relative risk to the city's ecology, human health, and economy. Environmental Impact Assessment [EIA] methodology is used for an objective evaluation of environmental problem areas and is compatible with the standard components of risk assessment. EIA used as parallels and steps to achieve the Comparison Risk Assessment [CRA]. CRA consists of problem formulation, description of the present condition of the environment, gathering scientific data and regulatory information, identifying potential environmental impact, describing effected areas, quantifying various impacts, evaluating significance of impacts, characterization of risk and comparison, and ranking. The paper developed a mathematical model, Ecological Risk Index [ERI] to incorporate information on the variables of impacts. Through the CRA, significant insight was gained about Jeddah's environmental problem areas. Better resource utilization and a greater understanding of environmental problem management are only a few of the many significant results were realized. The results of the ranking would be the logic behind the city's strategic planning process.
