Abstract

This study aimed to achieve the security and sustainability of electric energy through the proposed energy mix to match the geopolitical changes related to the global energy transformation from conventional energies to renewable energies, by studying the current global geopolitical situation and standards used in developing plans, defining and assessment of long-term options for electric power policy in Egypt, and providing a set of indicators and criteria to measure the sustainability of electric power.
To achieve this goal, the researchers relied on a “case study" on the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to identify the current sources of electrical energy and assess the global geopolitical conditions for the energy transformation that affect the Egyptian electricity and energy sector, in order to identify the nature and limits of the impact of these geopolitical conditions on energy sources. The study indicated that there are impacts on the Egyptian electricity and energy sector with essential significance from the energy transition. The study recommended the following:
- Improving access to electricity supplies from various renewable energy sources and the dependence on them in improving the contribution of energy to achieving equitable economic development, and to keep pace with the geopolitical changes related to the transformation of energy into renewable energies.
- Facilitating the transition to a more sustainable energy development path by interconnecting the electricity grid with the grids of neighboring countries and working to make Egypt a hub for electrical interconnection in the region to achieve the required renewable energy mix.
