Abstract

Sustainability in Supply Chain (SCS) is an important issue nowadays, the Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) System approach can be considered an improvement of the corporation strategic alliance. In this paper the relation between (i) the supply chain sustainability aspects, the environmental aspect, the social aspect, economical aspect and (ii) the vendor managed inventory variables, the administration variable, the production variable, the inventory variable, service level variable, and the transportation variable are studied. A comprehensive understanding of how the supply chain sustainability aspects is associated with the vendor managed inventory variables is discussed. Most of the previous studies discussed the supply chain sustainability, the VMI and the relation between the VMI and the SCS in the pharmaceutical industry, but none of the previous studies has linked between the VMI and the SCS in the retailer industry. In this paper, we investigated the effect of the vendor managed inventory and the supply chain sustainability by comparing SCS variables with VMI variables. A statistical study was conducted in consideration to a survey distributed among supply chain experts in various industries in the market. The study result show that there is a relation between the SCS variables and the VMI variables.
