EVALUATION OF THE ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL RETURNS TO THE APPLICATION OF QUALITY STANDARDS IN EGYPTIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the economic and environmental impact of the application of the standards of quality assurance and accreditation issued by the National Authority for Quality Assurance of Education and accreditation to the Egyptian public universities, with application to the faculties of Ain Shams University (10 universities) as an additional and renewable source to finance the multiple requirements of these colleges due to the inability of the state budget alone to meet those requirements as well as the environmental return because of the interest in prudent treatment of environmental protection and improvement in the context of achieving suitable amount of environmental development rates. The researchers follow the descriptive method in the analysis of data, information and statistics related to the study subject of university faculties that have got accreditation, (10) faculties and the teaching staff number (13655). The sample items are classified according to gender (males/females) and the educational level (university qualification & above, Intermediate qualification, intermediate qualification and below), the age group and the administrative level (faculty staff member - employees), (374) persons. The statistical method is used to validate the hypotheses and derive the results through interpretation. The main findings of this study come as follows: 1-   There are some economic returns when applying quality assurance and accreditation standards with a fundamental relationship between applying quality assurance & accreditation standards and achieving economic return. 2-   There are some environmental returns in the application of quality assurance and accreditation standards with a substantial significant relationship between the application of quality assurance and accreditation standards and achieving an environmental return. The most important recommendations of the study: Expanding the establishment of workshops and seminars to clarify the importance of the role of quality assurance standards in raising the economic and environmental return of Egyptian government universities and how to raise this revenue.
