RAISING THE EFFICIENCY OF SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR NEW CITIES BY ACTIVATING THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY SERVICE CASE STUDY OF SHOROUQ CITY / SMART CITY

Abstract

The policy of establishing new urban communities is one of the main supports of the comprehensive development plans in Egypt. Egypt has adopted a plan to implement the new cities in locations where farfrom the agricultural lands and traditional urban areas in the Nile Valley. The locations of these new cities have been carefully selected to play a key role as focal points for the new urban areas, attracting residents towards the desert and uninhabited areas, which reaching about 93% of the Arab of Egypt.
Over the last years, movement to implement this policy was considered. The collected results from study prepared by the General Authority for Urban Planning and the New Urban Communities Authority concluded that Al Shorouq City does not have a distinctive economic base and its main objective is to become a housing community that housing companies develop as a solution to the housing problem.
The problem is clearly demonstrated by the absence of a distinctive economic base in Al Shorouq City. The dominant activity is the construction activity to create the city as a sleep city. The methodology of the research was based on the complete description of the housing situation in Al Shorouq City, moreover, monitoring the existing elements in the city which qualifies it to become a smart city, taking in consideration all available possibilities. Therefore, the main objective of the research is to monitor and analyze the problems facing Al-Shorouq City's development plans and their causes. In addition to, offering the best land suitablility of the available resources in the city. That is why the research can reduce the gap between already existing and the development plans. Finally, formulate a future vision for sustainable development in Al-Shorouq City under current conditions and future challenges based on the sustainable smart planning principles.
