The present study was carried out to estimate genetic parameters for body weights (BW's) at weaning 4,8,12 and 16 weeks and daily weight gain (DG's) during the intervals from 4-8, 8-12, 12-16, 4-12 and 4-16 weeks of age in Gabali rabbits). The data set used in the present study were records of 1481 rabbits, progenies of 49 sires and 169 dams, collected during 2007 to 2010 from Gabali rabbits flock raised at Maryout Research Station, 35 km west of Alexandria. Data were analyzed using a multi-trait animal model to estimate additive, common litter effects and residual variances. The model included the fixed effects (sex, parity and litter size at born) and random effects (additive genetic and common litter effect in addition to random error) for post-weaning growth traits. Estimates of heritability were 0.19, 0.23, 0.16 and 0.14 for BW4, BW8, BW12 and BW16, respectively. There were 0.38, 0.25, 0.21, 0.22 and 0.18 for average daily gain from (4-8), (8-12), (12-16), (4-12) and (4-16) weeks of age respectively. The estimate of common litter effects were 0.62, 0.37, 0.68, 0.49, 0.46, 0.48, 0.44, 0.45 and 0.46 for BW4, BW8, BW12, BW16, DG's of (4-8), (8-12), (12-16), (4-12) and ( 4-16) weeks of age, respectively. Estimates of direct genetic correlation were 0.55, 0.10, 0.05, 0.90, 0.57 and 0.89 among body weight traits, while it was 0.60 for DG's between (4-8) and (8-12), 0.45 between (4-8) and (8-16), 0.79 between (8-12) and (8-16) and 0.55 between (4-12) and (4-16). The current investigation advocates that selection process could be effective for both direct genetic and common litter effects to enhance the accuracy of genetic evaluation and the genetic gain for growth traits in Gabali rabbit.
