Abstract

The term "Long term care" refers to a variety of services that includes medical and non-medical
care to people who have a chronic illness or disability. It can be provided both at home or within
the community as well as in a variety of facilities adjusted to meet the different needs of the
elderly. It may be carried out both informally by family, friends and volunteers, and formally by
health care professionals. It may also be in the form of services provided to the elderly such as
meals and transportation services.
