Abstract

Background: With a basic replication number of 2-2.5, the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is spreading swiftly over the world. Pregnant women, foetuses, and infants are anticipated to be a high-risk group during this pandemic. This study aimed to to determine what is known about the consequences of COVID-19 infection on pregnant women and their kids, role of SARS-CoV-2 immunization, brestfeeding as well as the importance of providing care for them throughout the pandemic. COVID-19 positive pregnant women may be asymptomatic or experience mild to severe symptoms, but they are at a higher risk of problems than non-pregnant women. These complications include fatigue, headache, fever, pneumonia, preterm labour, and early rupture of membranes, in addition to babies complications including, preterm birth, respiratory distress syndrome, pneumonia, low birth weight, and neurological issues. Some studies proved that, SARS-CoV-2 vaccine is safe during pregnancy, with no high risk of preterm labour or a small for gestational age. However, there may be an increase in the rate of preterm birth during the second trimester. Furthermore, lactating women with confirmed COVID-19 should use a medical mask and follow basic hygiene and handwashing instructions during contact with her baby. Conclusion: it is critical to provide care to pregnant mothers before and after delivery, as well as their infants during this epidemic. Pregnant women who exhibit any indications or symptoms of COVID-19 should be thoroughly checked. The severity of the condition, as well as the time and location of treatment, will all influence the outcome.
