Abstract

AbstractBackground: Insersion of subcutaneous poracath is im-portant in some cancer cases for whom chemotherapy isindicated. It is done either through image guided techniquein Intrerventional Departement or through blind technique inthe Surgical Departement.Aim of Study: We aimed in our study to to evaluate thecomplications and advantages of the two methodes used forportacath insertion (image-guided inserion and anatomicallandmark blind technique) and compare both to detect thebetter one should be used for the pateints.Patients and Methods: 110 adult cancer patients referredfrom the Medical Oncology Department outpatient clinics forsubcutaneous port catheter insertion in the period from January2019 to January 2020. 55 pateints underwent image-guidedinserion technique, while the other 55 pateints underwent theanatomical landmark blind technique. Data were collectedand analyzed. We campared the feasibility, advantages andcomplications of each technique. Results: The results showed obvious decreased complica-tions in image guided port catheter insertion compared toanatomical landmark blind technique in adult cancer patientsindicated for chemotherapy. Conclusion: Image guided portacath insertion is moresafe than anatomical landmark blind insertion.
