Problems of Rural Women in the Field of Dairy Producing and Marketing in Some Villages in Menoufia Governorate

Abstract

The research aims mainly to identify the problems facing the respondents in the field of dairy producing and marketing in four groups: (information problems, production problems, economic problems, marketing problems, and consumer problems) and the in Menoufia Governorate, as it is considered one of the highest governorates in the production of cow and buffalo milk, and by the same criterion, it was selected Ashmoun district as a first ranks among the governorate's districts in terms of the total number of cows and milking cattle, and then three villages were selected in it, namely; Shanshor and Samadon, and Alprraniah villeges. The number of milking cattle breeders' degree of impact of these problems, and the respondents' suggestions to overcome the problems they face when producing and marketing of dairy. The research was conducted in the three villages was counted they were amounted to 3998 in Shanshor village, 3471 breeders in Samadon village and 3289 breeders in the village of Alprraniah, so, the total number of livestock breeders in the three villages were amounted to 10758, which was considered the population of research, and by using Stephen Thompson's equation, the sample size amounted to 370 respondents (a breeder's wife who is responsible for raising milk cattle in her family), they were distributed according to the percentage of representation of each village In the population of the study, 138 female respondents in the village of Shanshor, 119 female respondents in the village of Samadon, and 113 female respondents in the village of Alprraniah. Data were collected during months of  January and February of 2022 by using an interviewing personal questionnaire from the respondents, they are wives of livestock breeders, who are responsible for raising the dairy cattle in their families. The descriptive approach was used (frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation) to explain the results.
The most prominent results were as follows
1) The problems that occupy a greater priority from the respondents' point of view, and the other that occupies a lower priority according to the weighted arithmetic mean, the group of economic problems ranked first with a weighted mean amounted to (1.70) degrees, followed by the group of informational problems with an average of (1.55) degrees, and in the third rank came the group of marketing problems with weighted mean amounted to (1.53) degrees, then the group of productivity problems came in the fourth rank with weighted mean amounted to (1.51) degrees, and finally the group of consumer problems came in the fifth rank with weighted mean amounted to (1, 35), respectively.
2) The results showed that the most important suggestions of the respondents to overcome the problems they face when producing and marketing milk are: establishing cooperative associations to market milk and its products by percentage amounted to  (86.8%), providing extension services for raising awareness about the production of clean and safe milk by percentage amounted to (78.6%), the livestock insurance system for agricultural cooperatives by percentage amounted to (77.8%), the necessity for the government to support concentrated feed (providing concentrated feed at affordable prices) by percentage amounted to  (75.7%).
