On behalf of the International Federation for Home Economics, I welcome you to the Second International Sixth Scientific Conference on Home Economics, hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture at Alexandria University through the efforts of Prof. Dr. Neven Mustafa Hafez, Head of the Department of Home Economics and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Abdel Azizc Qanswa, President of Alexandria University, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hussein AI-Ghandour, Vice President of Alexandria University For Postgraduate Studies and Research Affairs. Congratulations are in order for the celebration of 50 years of Home Economics in Alexandria, the result of a commitment of University of Alexandria, the faculty and supporters to the research and education that will build a quality of life for the citizens of Egypt, their neighbours and the region for years to come. Egyptian home economists have risen to prominent, policy level decision positions as well as serving IFHE faithfully in positions of leadership, including Prof. Mona Sharaf Abdelgalil, who is a member of our Executive Committee representing the Region of Africa.  I am honoured to be invited to share my thoughts with you. Especially as your event's theme “Family, Society and Contemporary Challenges in the Light of the 2030 Vision". IFHE unites professional organizations, research institutions, and educators from more than 70 countries who believe in the power of individual choices to transform (global) societies towards a sustainable future. Our mission is to advocate research & education for the responsible use of resources at household and consumer level and through this contribute to achieving a sustainable living for all. Our profession spans multiple academic disciplines and values home as a place where equality reigns and everyone can develop their full potential.
