Evaluating an Extension Training Program in the Field of Emergency Family Economic and Health Crises Management, in the Light of Training Needs of Rural Housewives at Mamoura Agri

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate an extension training program in the field of emergency family health and economic crises management, in the light of the actual training needs of rural Housewives, at Mamoura agricultural administration, Alexandria Governorate, using Action Research method. This research was conducted in two phases; the first stage was to determine the training needs of rural Housewives, using focus group discussions from a sample of 74 respondents, during August 2018. The second phase included designing, implementing, and evaluating an extension training program in the field of economic crises management and emergency family health in general, and on family budget and first aid, from a purposive sample of 60 trainees, a questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using percentages, frequencies, mean, standard deviation, and T test; in addition to the qualitative analysis method. The most important results were: 1) Family economic crises represented the most important problems of rural women respondents, followed by family health crises, then a group of social and psychological crises, in addition to some other problems. 2) The positive impact of the training extension program for improving the knowledge level of the trainees, as there were significant differences between the mean scores of knowledge level before and after the training sessions regarding both training topics in general and all their relevant knowledge items, at (p=0.01) for “first aids" and (p < 0.05) for “family budget". 3) The trainees' suggestions regarding future training programs to improve training extension methods such as providing the training content in a printed form (75%), increasing the time allocated to present practical methods, especially for first aids subject (68.5%), followed by other special suggestions with physical environment, such as increasing of extension training program days (70%), and the balance between training hours and the topics presented according to their importance (58.33%).
