The Use of Information and Communication Technology (Ict) by Extension Agents in Agricultural Extension Work in Menoufia Governorate

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the status of the use of information and communication technology in the extension system in Menoufia Governorate, and to determine the degree of use of extension workers for information and communication technology in extension work, and the correlation between the degrees of use and the studied independent variables. A random sample of 185 respondents, representing about 53% of the extension workers in the governorate, and data were collected through a personal interview using a questionnaire prepared to achieve the objectives of the research.
The most important results of the research were: the lack of the capabilities required to use information and communication technology in extension work in Menoufia Governorate, and the low level of training among extension workers in this field. Degree of use (Hardware - software - Internet and social media applications - maintenance skills) were (30.67% - 31.67% -44.3% - 38%), respectively
The respondents who are between low, medium, never using level of hardware components were about 91%, which indicates a very low use, and the matter did not differ much for other components. The most important variables related to the degree of use of extension workers for information and communication technology at work, The indicatives (Internet use related to work with a correlation coefficient of (0.527), the number of training courses in the field of information and communication technology (0.391), and the degree of Availability of information and communication technology requirements (0.200), all at a level of significance of 1%.
The most important problems that impede the use of information technology and communication in extension work was lack of financial allocations for training in this field and lack of motivation for workers to use information technology and communication.
Respondents suggested some items for developing use of information technology and communication in extension work as: selecting and equipping contact points for local leaders and agricultural associations, and employment new qualified workers from students of faculties.
