Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to assess the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and to correlate the results of this scores with disease manifestations and disease parameters. Patients and Methods: Health related quality of life (HRQOL) was assessed in 60 patients with SLE using the short form-36 (SF-36) and the fatigue severity scale (FSS). All patients were evaluated for disease severity [disease activity as measured by Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) and damage as measured by the Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinic/American College of Rheumatology (SLICC/ACR) damage index (SDI)]. Results: There was a statistical significant difference between SLE patients and the control regarding the SF36 and the FSS (P=<0.05). A highly significant statistically negative correlation was observed between SF-36 and disease activity measured by SLEDAI& disease damage measured by SLICC (p=<0.05).Conclusion: We concluded that there was an impaired health related quality of life (HRQOL) in SLE patients as measured by SF36 and the FSS. This impairment is more in patients with higher disease activity and disease damage.
