Ophthalmic endoscope was introduced since sixty years for extraction of non-magnetic foreign body. Since then interest has been periodic and recurrent. Initial instruments were bulky, fragile, difficult to use and expensive. Recent technological advancements allowed use of small caliber, better optics, three dimensional viewing and software applications to adjust image, so that various types of ophthalmic endoscopes can be used for observation, photography and surgical treatment of many anterior segment and posterior segment diseases. Also addition of laser device to endoscope system added to its utilities. The endoscope is primarily used in circumstances in which visualization is impaired either by pathological changes in the ocular media or by anatomical location of structure of interest.
