Abstract

The evergreen tree Syzygium australe J.C. Wendl. ex Link. commonly known as Brush Cherry; is extensively dispersed over the subtropical and tropical regions. The tree is grown for its wood, eatable fruit, and aesthetic appeal. Its diverse leaves and fruits preparations are used in folk medicine for their anesthetic, antibacterial and antifungal activities. It has also been proposed as a food that promotes health. This review's objectives are to present a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the active constituents in different S. australe organs, including phenolics, flavonoids, triterpenoids, and tannins, along with their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant capacities.
