Abstract

Background: ChatGPT is a conversational large language model (LLM) powered by artificial intelligence (AI).  If concerns about the application of large language models are addressed, their potential in research appears promising. Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the utility of ChatGPT in writing the methodology of different research studies related to Microbiology and Parasitology and to highlight its potential capabilities and limitations. Methods: a single sample of meta-analysis review and observational study and clinical trial were selected by searching PubMed/MEDLINE and Google Scholar following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRIMSA), Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines, and Guidelines for randomized clinical trials were used to examine ChatGPT in the research context. Results: Using ChatGPT in research methodology was promising in the examined study research articles with some limitations that necessitate the role of the researchers. Conclusion: AI can assist in deciding the methodology scholarly but only with the collaboration of humans to yield the best outcomes.
