Abstract

This research aims to determine the degree of farmers' knowledge in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production in Damietta Governorate. Two districts were randomly selected using a basket method from the five governorate districts, and the selection resulted in Damietta and Faraskur districts. In the same way, two villages were randomly selected, and the selection resulted in Al-Sayala village in Damietta district and Al-Ghanimiya village in Faraskur districts. The number of holders in the research villages was limited to 1844 holders representing the entire study area. A percentage of 10% was taken to determine the sample size, and their number reached 184 respondents, distributed over the two study villages according to the overall representation percentage of each village in the entire study area, which was 109 respondents in Al-Sayala village and 75 respondents in Al-Ghanimiya village. Frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, simple and multiple correlation coefficients, partial regression coefficient, and regression coefficient were used as tools for statistical analysis. The most important results of the research were as follows: 1- The level of knowledge of the majority of farmers surveyed in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production is low and medium. 2- The most important advisory recommendations that the surveyed were not familiar with in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production are: planting crop varieties that can withstand, followed by planting crops that consume less water, then building a fence around the crops as windbreaks when there are dust storms, then counting rain as one of the irrigations when the amount of rain increases.  3- There is a direct and significant correlation at the probability level of 0.01 between the degree of knowledge of the farmers surveyed in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production and their following independent variables: education level, membership of organizations, and obtaining daily data and information about weather conditions. The results also showed a direct and significant correlation at the probability level of 0.05 between the degree of their knowledge in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production and the farm holding capacity. The results also showed an inverse and significant correlation at the probability level of 0.01 between the degree of their knowledge in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production and each of: the age of the respondent, and the number of family members. The results also showed an inverse and significant correlation at the probability level of 0.05 between the degree of their knowledge in the field of reducing the negative effects of climate change on agricultural production and each of the number of educated children and the number of years of work in agriculture.
