This study examines the symbolism of animals in Ted Hughes' poetry, focusing on their representation of primal instincts and their connection to the human psyche. Hughes' work frequently employs animal imagery to explore themes of nature, power, survival, and the unconscious mind. Through close analysis of key poems such as Hawk Roosting, The Thought-Fox, and Pike, this paper argues that Hughes uses animals as metaphors to delve into the raw, instinctual forces that underpin both the natural world and human existence.
