Abstract

“The best scientists and explorers have the attributes of kids! They ask questions and have a sense of wonder. They have curiosity. ‘Who, what, where, why, when and how!' They never stop asking questions, and I never stop asking questions, just like a five-year-old." Sylvia Earle. The previous quote indicates the reason behind this dissertation. It focuses on understanding why Egyptian women choose to express themselves on female-oriented Facebook groups and how their communication on these groups affect women empowerment and feminism. Since the main two questions in this dissertation are why and how, qualitative approach is used to give meaning and help build a better understanding of the topic. Qualitative content analysis and in-depth interviews are used to provide information and ideas about the topic. There are different mass communication theories that help give meaning to the topic which will be used further in the literature review that follows.
