Competition in higher education in Egypt is drastically evolving. Public universities are not the only providers of higher education services. The directional strategies are imperative components of its strategic plan. Selecting appropriate strategies is the subject of effective portfolio analysis. A few studies explored the BCG portfolio matrix in higher educational entities. The objectives of this study are: (1) conduct a literature review about portfolio analysis and directional strategies in higher education. (2) define the business portfolio and SBUs of FIBH. (3) evaluate each SBU using the BCG matrix criteria. (4) develop a BCG matrix with all defined SBUs of FIBH. (5) assign proper directional strategy for each SBU and a grand strategy for the whole faculty. Two SBUs are categorized stars; finance-undergraduate track and accounting-undergraduate track. Research SBU is plotted as poor dog and the rest of the SBUs are question marks. Therefore, the recommended grand strategy for FIBH will be mainly a growth strategy at the strategic level with a differentiation focus on the business level except for the stars; a stability strategy with growth orientation is emphasized. This growth strategy will be reflected in various operational strategies; market expansion (current) and development (new), and product development (upgrading and new programs) depending on the position of each SBU. This study shall guide other higher educational entities in developing their BCG matrix to assign effective strategies. Analyzing the risk profile of the SUBs and assessing the interrelationships between them to assign proper strategies are highly recommended for future studies.
