Abstract

Architecture and fashion are both fine arts, but they share more common ground than any other fine art. Since the beginning of history, both shelter and clothing have been a line of defense and protection for the body. They also shared the same materials in their early beginnings, as clothes and tents were made of animal skins and hair. In addition, both are three-dimensional designs that contain a spatial space inside them. Over time, the relationship between fashion designers and architects has evolved and influenced each other. Since fashion design students need to discover many approaches and new sources of inspiration to develop their creative practice and reach a wider range of solutions to the design problem, and since architecture is considered a reflection of the surrounding environment and an expression of culture and identity, adopting the architectural character of Saudi cities, as inspiration, is one way of strengthening national identity. Taking architecture itself as an inspiration is also a way to develop the creative abilities of fashion design students, as well as to develop their technical skills in implementation. The use of traditional materials such as fabric and thread to express architectural designs made of materials That have completely different nature, such as iron, steel, and glass, is a challenge for these students and a motivating means to raise their technical skills and develop their performance in them. Problem: Can fashion students draw inspiration from architectural structures to Innovate Women's Fashion Designs? Can they use traditional fabrics and materials to simulate architectural structures by using different techniques? Significance: developing the students' abilities in inspiration. developing their technical skills in implementation. strengthening the Saudi identity by adopting the architectural character of Saudi cities as an inspiration. taking advantage of architectural design in a way that supports artistic creativity in fashion design. Objectives: identify the relationship between fashion and architecture and the impact of architecture on the world of fashion. create women's fashion designs inspired by Saudi architectural structures. Hypotheses: taking architecture as an inspiration would raise the students' creative abilities in the design process. simulating the designs of architectural structures would enrich the students' technical skills in implementing the design. Methodology: The research followed the descriptive and analytical methods in addition to the experimental method. Results: The weighted average of the proposed designs regarding "creativity" ranges between 92.3 and 95.5, while the weighted average of them regarding "used techniques" ranges between 91.8 and 97.5. All of them are considered good percentages, which proves the validity of the two study hypotheses. The proposed designs that received the lowest percentages overall, received high scores regarding the "value added by the inspiration from the architectural design" and the "harmony of the technique with the overall shape", which indicates the success of the proposed idea.
