Abstract

Background: The most frequent food allergy in babies, called cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), has a negative impact on a family's quality of life. The immune system of a newborn reacts to proteins in cow's milk. Aim: To assess the level of knowledge about it to know there is a malpractice of CMPA in Ismailia.Patients and methods: sample of physicians and parents who can lead with CMPA. This study was carried out at the GIT clinic of SCU hospital, and primary health care units in Ismailia. Two surveys were conducted, one for physicians and the other for parents. We enrolled on our study 65 physicians and 100 parents. Results: there is a lack of knowledge about CMPA diagnosis and management and its guidelines from the physicians and a lack of information about CMPA symptoms and steps of management from parents of infants suspected to have CMPA that lead to malpractice that must be negatively reflected on child health. Conclusion: There is a lack of knowledge about CMPA for doctors when it comes to diagnosis and management For parents: As people learn more about CMPA from the media than from doctors, there is an inflated concern about expected symptoms and indicators, and there is a lack of knowledge about what foods include milk that must be avoided during elimination.
