Abstract

The research aimed to identify some of the personal and social characteristics of rural young respondents, determine the degree of knowledge the respondents had about the concept of green economy and its importance, respondents' knowledge about risks arising from climate changes in the studied areas, and determine the degree of awareness of respondents about the role of the green economy in facing the risks arising from climate changes in the following aspects: Social, economic, health and environmental, and identifying the obstacles that limit the green economy's role in facing climate changes and proposals to overcome them from the respondents' viewpoint. The research was conducted on a sample of 200 rural young respondents, who were chosen randomly from two villages in Markaz Zagazig (Zagazig center) affiliated to Sharkia Governorate. The personal interview questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents during March and April 2023. After collecting the data, it was emptied and analyzed statistically, using frequencies, percentages, weighted average, Pearson's simple correlation coefficient, and chi-square. The most important results are as follows: High level of knowledge of the respondents with the concept of green economy, where the percentage of respondents in the high-level category reached 55%. More than three-fifths of the respondents (60.5%) have a high level of overall awareness of the role of the green economy in facing climate change. Nearly three-fifths of the respondents (58%) have a medium level of knowledge about the risks arising from climate change. There is a direct correlation at a significant level of 0.01 between degree of respondents' knowledge about the risks in general and the degree of their economic, environmental and health awareness, and awareness in general, in regard to the role of the green economy in facing the risks arising from climate change. The most important constraints that limit the green economy from playing its role in facing climate change are the spread of unemployment problem among the groups of society, especially among young groups, and The weakness of available technical capabilities and experiences. The most important proposals of the respondents to overcome the obstacles that limit the green economy's role in facing climate change are raising awareness of the importance of waste and the need to recycle and benefit from it, and raising awareness about energy rationalization use and encouraging the use of new and renewable energy sources that are environmentally friendly.
