Abstract

The aim of the research is to try to identify the way emergency unit workers deal with medical waste, and the extent of its impact on social performance and social relations. The research attempts to answer a main question, which is: What is the nature of emergency unit workers' dealing with medical waste, and the extent of its impact on social performance and social relations? The descriptive analytical approach was chosen to study the research sample, which was selected from the emergency unit at the University Specialized Children's Hospital. They were studied based on a questionnaire. The research reached several results, the most important of which is that most workers in the emergency units deal properly with medical waste at its various stages, whether sorting, collection, transportation, or temporary storage. The research results confirmed that most workers are keen to wear personal protective equipment. In addition, workers in the emergency units adhere to official working hours, respect work completion time, and adhere to the instructions of management and supervisors in dealing with medical waste in the emergency unit. The results also showed that most workers have received training courses on how to deal with medical waste. Despite this, medical examinations are not conducted for workers on a regular basis. The research results indicated the provision of all social services provided to workers, and the increase in the effectiveness and role of the Social Service Department, as it works to develop the social performance of workers with medical waste in emergency units. The research concluded that positive social relations contribute to improving the performance of workers, while negative social relations affect the performance of workers with medical waste in emergency units.
