Impact of Dentin Chips on Dog's Traumatic Dental pulp Exposure

Abstract

Background:Dentinchips have many advantages; the reparative dentin formation is one of their challenges. Aim of studyto evaluate the possible effect of dentin chips on intentionally traumatic dental pulp exposure in dog's teeth in compared to calcium hydroxide as a conventional direct pulp capping material. Materials and Methods:Six male adult dogs ranging in age from 6 to 12 months with a mean weight of 10 kilograms were used in this study. Traumatic pulp exposure was created in the teeth (class V cavities) prepared on the facial surface of the dogs.  These animals will be divided into main groups, 3 dogs each. First group < /strong>: the teeth in these animals will be capped with Dycal filling material and Amalgam filling material in the remaining cavity. Second group < /strong>: the teeth in these animals will be capped with autogenic dentin chips and remaining cavity fills by Amalgam filling material.The dogs of each groups were subdivided to be sacrificed after (4and 6) weeks and examined using light microscope. Results:The histological examination showed that the reparative dentin was increased with increasing the periods of the time.The reparative dentin was enhanced in the samples treated with dentin chips. Conclusions:From the results of the present study, it could be concluded that the dentin chips enhanced reparative dentin and decreased inflammatory response than Dycal treated groups.
