Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the dimensional changes of flexible denture bases, Versacryl denture bases materials (self-cure and heat-cure).
Materials and Methods:twenty standardized maxillary stone casts were fabricated from type IV dental stone. The maxillary stone casts with four identifying points 1, 2 (X-axis) and 3, 4 (Y-axis) were prepared. (X-axis) in an antro-posterior direction, while(Y-axis) in a transverse direction bisecting and perpendicular to the antro-posterior axis and extend bilaterally right and left 3-4 mm below the crest of alveolar ridge . Then the casts were divided equally into 2 groups ,10 casts for each;Group I. Construction of the denture base usingself-cured Versacryl material. Group II: Construction of denture base usingheat-cured Versacrylmaterial. To determine the linear dimensional changes of both types of Versacryl denture bases and casts,Measurscope device were used and data were recorded.Palatal gap was measured using a mix of light body rubber base impression materialinjected in the gap between denture base and thestone cast. All the denture bases and rubber base layer (base-gaps) were sectioned at posterior region into 3 equal parts. The thicknesses of rubber base layer were measured by digital calipers. These measurements were recorded for both groups (heat-cured and self-cured).
Results:The overall results of the in vitro study indicate that no significant difference of linear dimension between the two groups whereasGroup I (self-cure Versacryl) showed a significant increase in measured palatal gap than group II.
Conclusions:In this study, heatcureVersacryl showed good dimensional stability and superior accuracy compared to self-cured Versacryl.
