The Effects of Characteristics of Personality Types on Adults' Behaviors in Social Situations among Gender in the State of Kuwait.

Abstract

Abstract The aims for this study were to elucidate the gender differences among general types of personality traits within the normal population according to the Eysenck personality questionnaire-revised (Eysenc, Eysenck, &Barrett, 1985) (EPQ-R) four subscales' namely psychoticism\tough-mindedness(P)extraversion(E),neuroticism\emotionality (N), and lie/social desirability(L). In addition, to examine the associations of deceptive behaviors in EPQ-R subscale lying\social desirability and gender with demographic variables such as, age, educational level, marital status, and employment. A total of one hundred and ninety-one participants (males N = 91; females N = 100) were administered the EPQ-R developed by Eysenck, Eysenck, and Barrett, (1985) translated by Abdel-Khalek (1991) in Arabic. The study results indicated that according to the EPQ-R the most prevalent types of personalities were the psychoticism, and extraversion among males' adults in the state of Kuwait. In addition, the study results showed that females have high scores in lie\ social desirability subscale than their males counter parts. Moreover, the study results indicated that there were significant differences between personality types mainly the psychoticism and lie subscales among gender with some demographic variables data such as (age, marital status, educational levels, and employment). These findings shed some light on the nature and the most prevalent types of personality among adults living in the state of Kuwait and the associations between the types of personality and adults dishonest behaviors, also, it can help to better understand the differences between gender behaviors in social situations. The words psychoticism\ tough mindedness; neuroticism\ emotionality; and lie and or social desirability were used interchangeably.
