Abstract

Efficiency of the three larval predacious insects. Coccinella undecimpunctste
L. Chi/ocorus bipustulalus L.. and Chrysoperla camea Steph. larvae alonq with adults
of the Iwo former coccinellid beetles were estimated after vaned periods 9f starvatic:1
(2. 4. 6. 8, 10. 24, and 26 hours). Starved individuals were reared on Ap < /em>hIs gossyp < /em>ii
Glover under laboratory conditions. Results showed that starved larvae as well as
adutts of coccinellids were more positively to the preys as compared to t ose without
starvation. The successive four larval instars of C. unoecirnpunctete; showed a
maximum response after 4h., Sh., 10h., and 26h. of starvation, since he average,
numbers of consumed aphids I larvae were 26 S, 60.4. 99.2. and 10S.6 especlively
for its successive four larval instars. In case of Ch. bipustulalus, the same periods of
starvation (4h .. Sh., 10h., and 2Sh.) gave the maximum response. since he average
numbers of consumed aphids I larvae were 24.4, 5S.2, 90.4. and 102.4. respectively.
For the successive lour larvallnstars. Results also concerning the average number of consumed aphids for adults
of both sexes of coccinellid predators; after varied periods of starvatio ,since the
maximum response was detected arter 26 h. of starvation for adults of bolh
coccinellids. The consumption of adults were 35.2,55.2 aphids and 31.2, 4S.4 aphids
for male and female of C. undecimpunctata and Ch. bipuslulalus, respect; ely. These
results showed also that the rate of predation by C. undeclmpunctala was much
higher than that of Ch. bipuslulalus in larval stage as well as in adults f r almosl all
the same starvation periods. In case of C. camea. the average numbers or consumed aphids at the
starvation periods S, S, and 10h, were 16.4, 47.S and 99.2 I larvae for its three
successive larval instars.
