Abstract

The expenmenl was carried out at the Faculty of Agriculture Assiut University
during 1996, 1997 and 1998 seasons at three planting dates. I.e. January. June and
September on 12 ecotypes collected from 12 Governorate to study the behaviour of
different ecotypes.
As for the ecotypes collected from the South regions it was found that the
growth was higher in June and September planting dates. The most pronounced
ecolypes in growth was collected from EI-Minia and Sohage.
However those ecotypes collected from Qena, Assiut and New Valley were
earlier in the appearance of male and female flowers in June, while it was latest in
September planting date. On the other hand those ecotypes from Ef-Minia, Sohage
and Bani-Swif were higher in number of male and female Rowers, sex ratio, total yield
by number and weight of fruits per reddan in both June and September Planting dates.
whl)e Qena, Asslut and New Valley ecotypes gave Ihe lowest values of these
characters in both planting dales.
Regarding the behaviour of collected ecolypes from north regions it was
found that the highest growth values were detected In September than in June
plantings. The ecotypes collected form El-Sharkia, Alexandria. Kafr EI-Sheikh and EI-
Behaira were earlier in the appearance of male and female flowers in June and
September planting dates, while EI·Menofia and EI-Dakahlia ecotypes were the latest
in this character in both planting dates. Concerning total number of male and female
flowers and sex ratio Kafr El-Sheikh, Alexandria and Et·Sehera ecotyoes showed the
highest values of these characters, while the lowest values were ebservee ecotypes,
Sharkla. EI-Menofia and Dakhlia in both planting dates. As regard the total yietd by
number and weight of fruits per feddan, the superior ecotypes was observed from the
collections of Karr Et'Sheikh and EI-Menofia in June and Kafr EI·Sheikh only in
September planting date, while Dakahlia and EI-8ehera ecotypes snowed the lowes I
values of this character in both plantings. In January planting dale all ecotypes
collected from South and North regions did not continue growth and developments
and the plants died.
