Abstract

The main objective of the research was to determine level of farmers'
attitudes towards taking Credits from development and credit bank ;to determine
relationship between some studied independent variables and level of farmers'
attitudes towards taking credits from that bank ;to identify sources of farmers
information concerning taking credits from the bank, and to identify main reasons for
farmers' rejection of taking credits from the bank. A sample of 140 farmers was drawn from seven governorate districts (one
villagela district) . The research data were collected during the period January and
February,2004.A written questionnaire and interpersonal interviews were used in
collecting the research data. Frequency tables ,percentages ,chi-square contingency
factor ,arithmetic mean ,and standard deviation were used in analyzing the obtained
research data. The research findings showed the following: 1-Concerning level offarmers' attitudes towards taking credits from the bank. More than 50% of the research participants had low attitude concerning
taking credits from the bank, about 25% of the research participants were of medium
attitudes, and less than 1/6 of the research participants had high attitudes towards
taking credits from the bank. 2- Concerning relationship between the dependent variable (level of farmers'
attitudes towards taking credits from agricultural development and credit bank)
and the studied independent variables. The research findings indicated that there were significant relationships
between each of these studied independent variables:the research participant's desire
to take credit from the bank in the future ,the research participant's evaluation the
propriateness and ease process of paying back the taking credits, and the research
participant's benefit of the taking credits ,and the dependent variable. 3-Concerning sources of farmer's information related to taking credits from the
bank. The research findings indicated that the information sources, ranked in
descending way in accordance with their importance, came as : the bank agent,
relatives and neighbors, agents of agricultural cooperatives , agricultural extension
agent and different means of mass media. 4- The research findings showed that the main reasons for farmers' rejection of taking
credits from the bank, ranked in a descending way, were: inappropriate interest rate.
inappropriate process of paying back the credits, complicated procedures in relation
with taking the bank credits ,un willingness of taking the bank credits in general, and
low profit accrued from the bank credit. The researcher ,based on the obtained research findings, drew three main
strategies that may support the bank in maximizing farmers' positive attitudes towards
taking credits from agricultural development and credit bank.
