Nephrotic Children' Perspectives of Parental Practices and Their Relation with Quality of Life and Drug Adherence

Abstract

Background: Nephrotic syndrome is the most frequent chronic renal disorder in children that is associated with high relapse rate. . Aim of the study: to assess nephrotic children' perspectives of parental practices and their relation with quality of life and drug adherence. . Subjects& Method: Research design: A descriptive study was used. Setting: The study was conducted at Pediatric Urology Outpatient Clinic at Zagazig University Hospitals. Subjects: The study sample included100 children with nephrotic syndrome. . Tools of data collection: Five tools were used astructured interview questionnaire to collect data about personal characteristics of studied children, parenting style scale, modified parental support scale, pediatric quality of life inventory and morisky 8-item medication adherence scale. Results: The study results revealed that 64% of children were male with mean age of 10 , 73% were from rural. 72% of parents were authoritative. 60 % of children had highly supportive score. 83% of children had good QOL score. 45% had moderate drug adherence score. Conclusion: The study concluded that there was highly statistically significant relation (p < 0.001) between parenting style, parental support, child QOL and drug adherence. Recommendations: Based on the results of the present study, it can be recommended that orientation programs for children and parent about disease, Qol and drug adherence.
