Abstract

 
Background: The working environment of nurses is getting global interest and concern because
there is a growing consensus that identifying opportunities for improving working conditions in
hospitals. It is essential to maintain adequate staffing, high-quality of patients care, nurses' work
engagement and minimize their retention. Purpose: to explore nurses' perception of work
environment factors and its relation with their work engagement at Menoufia University Hospital.
Research design: A descriptive correlational research design. Study subjects: A simple random
sample of 400 staff nurses were recruited from Menoufia University Hospital at Shebin El-Kom.
Setting: This study was conducted in selected units at Menoufia University Hospital. Instruments:
two instruments were utilized by the researchers including; Perception of Work Environment
Factors Questionnaire and Level of Work Engagement Questionnaire. Results: two thirds of studied
nurses had poor perception of work environment factors, moreover, more than half of them had low
level of work engagement. There was a high statistical significant between total work environment
dimensions related factors and there was a high statistical significant between total work
engagement dimensions score of the studied subjects at p≤ 0.001. Conclusion: There was a highly
statistical significant positive correlation between nurses' perception level of work environment
factors and their level of work engagement .Recommendation: Facilitating job engagement of
nurses by establishing a supportive, fair and impartial work environment, providing job autonomy,
maintaining effective communication with nurses.
