Abstract

This study was conducted at Poultry Production Unit, Poultry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, Egypt, throughout the entire growth period from January up to February 2011. The study aimed to determine the nutrients composition of dried distiller's grains with soluble (DDG's), amino and fatty acids profile percentage. Additionally, the effect of feeding dietary DDG's at levels of 10, 20 and 30% as a replacement of energy and protein sources with or without either levels of 0, 1.5 or 3 g/kg herbs mixture on the productive performance, carcass traits, microbial statute of caecum, nutrient digestion and economic efficiency. The expermintal diets fed to the growing rabbits from 35 to 70 days of age (5 weeks). A total number of 144 weaned V-line rabbits at 5 weeks of age, with an average live body weight of 831 g. were randomly distributed into twelve groups. Each group comprised of 3 replicats of 4 rabbits each (2 males + 2 females). Parameters studied include live body weight; weight gain; feed intake with each of protein, fiber and digestible energy intake as well as feed conversion was also calculated. At the end of the experimental period, carcass traits and economic efficiency were evaluated. Thus, it could be concluded that results of chemical composition of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDG's) as an agricultural manufacture by- product from ethanol industry may be considered as a preliminary indication on the possibility of using the tested material as a replacement of energy and protein sources in commercial growing rabbit's diets. This ingredient could be safely used in diets without adverse effect on productive performance, carcass traits, digestibility coefficients of nutrient substances and their nutritive values and economic efficiency. Moreover, it appears feasible to increase DDG's up to 30% with1.5 g/kg herbs supplementation.
